January 15, 2005 -- I took these
pictures of the Ventura County coastline (Ventura, Solimar, Faria,
Seacliff, Mussel Shoals, La Conchita, and Rincon) this week when I
took the Venoco boat to Carpinteria - the HWY 101 was closed for the
rescue workers to search for people trapped within the wreckage of the
La Conchita landslide. I've been riding my bike past La Conchita for
the last couple years and commonly reflect on the geological risks of
living at the base of such a dynamic hillside. Though I belive people
should be able to live where they desire, I think that there should be
ample information available to the potential residents and in this
case I seriously doubt that any profesional gelogist/engineer, over
the past 10 years, suggested that living in La Conchita was without

November 27, 2004 -- My New Camera
These new pictures were taken with my new Canon Powershot S500 Digital
ELPH camera in Ventura, CA. Highlights include the beach, Ed

Hot Week in Ventura -- Highlights: Record heat in Ventura and
Santa Barbara counties, Jack cools off in with a new haircut, a
popsicle, and a nice cool pool.

from SIGGRAPH 2004 - Los Angeles -- Highlights: The $80K 5 pipe
visualization system from Visionmax, The BP Center for Visualization
whose 3D well planning software we viewed, The emerging technologies
exhibits. We found the hardware vendor demos a little disappointing,
with the exception of the graphics card vendors, its the same old stuff
with flashy new cases, if there was an Itanium demo we missed it, and
SGI had none of their newer workstations but instead were showing the
same old DEM-drapped topographic horizons floating in an openGL viewer.

June 4, 2004 -- These
pictures
we took this week while contemplating the passing of Grandma Leisinger
- in memory, Alison, Jack, Jazz, and John spent some quality family
time sprucing up the back yard with new vegetation and ground cover,
while continually trying to teach the little guy the meaning of NO!

March 12, 2004 -- These are pictures from our mini-vacation to Santa Cruz and Big Sur.
While Ali went to her conference on Thursday and Friday Jack and I explored the famous Santa Cruz surf spots: Steamer
Lane and Natural Bridges, and Monterey's Cannery Row. Then, after Ali's conference ended on Friday we headed south to Big Sur and
spent the next couple days hiking around the local trails, checking out the beach and eating at Nepenthe.

February 10, 2004 -- I've been
back to work for a week or so now and haven't had too much time to dedicate
to updating my site, yet I have been taking a bunch of photos. These
pictures are of Jack, Jazz, Ali and me at the house and at the Ventura
Keys beaches. I guess that the highlights are Jack's incredible size
and energy, his new bottom teeth, and his new-found mobility.

January 26, 2004 -- Went to Best
Buy the other night and bought a new CF card reader and so here are
some pictures of Mountain Biking at Sulphur Mtn. Rd. and Big Sycomore
Canyon in the Sanata Monica Mountains, and a couple of Ali and Jack.

January 20, 2004 -- I really haven't
been taking many pictures lately and those that I have taken are stuck
on my camera until I buy a new CF Card reader which will probably be

January 13, 2004 -- Derek
and Brian caught the largest lobster in Ventura County. |

January 4, 2004 -- A few days
after Christmas, we left for Cape Cod to celebrate a late holiday season
on Jack's
trip on a plane. We had a great time in Chatham and Boston - the
weather was excellent so we spent most of the days on the becahes and
at night we went to a bunch of parties and usually ended up at the the
local tavern.

December 26, 2003 -- As for everyone,
Christmas week as been very hectic for us, but that aside, we've had
an excellent time witnessing the birth of Maxwell
Vogel, meeting Santa at a christmas party, and having the Leisinger
gang over for Christmas. Images of these events

December 19, 2003 -- All these pictures were taken with the camera that I borrowed
from Tamra which is a 5 megapixel Cannon
PowerShot G5 which makes far superior photos than my camera, a 2.1
megapixel Cannon PowerShot S110. My recent interest in digital media
has lead me to the daunting task or organizing my ~5000 photos and ~9000
mp3's. I'm trying to add metadata to my photos including when, where
and what descriptions for each photo. I'm using Apple's
iTunes for the music and wrote my own Java / XML photo-journaling
system to store the descriptive semantics above. |

December 10, 2003 -- So, I've
been doing this online documentation for over 2 years now and I feel
that a site-redesign is due and I plan on starting work on the redesign
after Jan 1. The other day I started doing an inventory and realized
that the easiest way of navigating the numericsolutions domain is using
a custom google search that I've put at the top and bottom of this page.
My bro Edward, a couple months ago, suggested I implement a web comments/dialogue
service which I did, I call it Trumpeter,
and I think its ready for some testing before I announce it to some
of the geeky-groups that might use it - so if you have a web site that
you'd like to add comments to give it a try. Lastly, while trying to
get the google service working I noticed that my University of Michigan geology department web
site is still up and is highly ranked by google. After regaining
my password from IT services at Michigan, I've decided that I'm gonna
leave it for posterity as I wrote it in 1995. |

December 5, 2003 -- Here are the pictures that I took over the Thanksgiving holiday, they include quite a few
from Schoolhouse, the beach down the street, and the guests we had for Thanksgiving dinner.

November 20, 2003 -- A *very decimated version of the movie "Jack Eats", that is ~11MB and took ~1min. to load over
my cable broadband connection. This is one of the first movies that I made, and I know that the learning curve is
going to be steep, so you'll see dramatic improvement over a short period.

www.vegbank.orgwhich is a project that I have been working for
about a year. Vegbank is responsible for building a data management
system to store vegetation data (including vegetation plots, plant taxonomic
relationships and vegetation community data) for the USA.
